Dynamic cabling systems are used to provide supplemental support to leaders, individual branches and/or entire trees. Poly-propylene systems are recommended for:
- Horizontal installations between limbs of young to middle-aged trees with sound crotches (no included bark growth).
- Species known for poor compartmentalization of wounds.
- Trees with leggy structure determined to experience significant flexibility to wind and ice.
- Hollow limbs where drilling is likely to accelerate decay or not provide sound anchorage for invasive hardware.
Cobra® poly-propylene systems consist of a hollow braid rope with a wide plastic insert wrapped around the trunk. A rubber shock absorber allows the tree to flex normally in light winds. As the tree trunk grows in diameter, additional rope will be pulled from the growth loop to prevent the tree from becoming girdled.
Non-invasive dynamic systems can be installed without injuring your tree. They can also be removed and a new system installed higher in the canopy as necessary. Cobra® systems can be expected to last approximately ten years before needing replacement.
