Virginia averages 35 to 45 thunderstorm days per year. Parts of Hampton Roads have the highest lightning strike rate in the state and many of these lightning strikes damage and kill urban trees. Lightning strikes on trees that are located close to your home or other structure can also pose a fire hazard. A severe strike can side-flash to your home’s outdoor lighting or metal guttering and spark a fire.
Streamline Tree Care can install a copper lightning protection system in your tree that will reduce the risk of damage to your tree or nearby structures. We can design a system based on the species, height, and diameter of your tree and by locating underground utilities or metal pipes. Air terminals are installed at the tips of key branches and connected to copper cable fastened to the the trunk and guided outside the tree’s drip line to a copper grounding rod.
Trees that are of special landscape importance or close to your home are good candidates for lightning protection. We will install your system according to ANSI (American National Standards Institute) A300 Standards. We also suggest that you have us inspect and test the system annually to ensure electrical continuity and continued effectiveness.
